Dammit, I can’t stop sweating from my eyes
Mujyou, crying as he says this, in episode 42
I wrote this review of Bomberman Jetterz on 7/24/2008, shortly after watching the final episode. It’s not very well written and spoils the plot.
Bomberman Jetters was beautiful. I had started to get bored of it, since it had been doing a monster-an-episode for such a long time, but the second half really picks up and gets rather deep. It’s surprising since it’s a kids show, but it started feeling like a really sad drama. We have Zero-san who had killed Shirobon’s older brother, Mighty, only to end up absorbing Mighty’s memories. Mighty is both dead and alive still in Zero-san. Yet Zero-san is also the one who has killed Mighty. No wonder Shirobon has a hard time dealing with these revelations. Instead of taking the easy route and having Zero-san then be considered as Mighty, or in other words, to bring Mighty back from the dead as Zero-san, the anime takes the more ‘tortured’ route. The epsidoes play with this idea of Zero-san being Mighty and yet not Mighty. At the same time revealing past regrets, last wishes and promises. Zero-san realizes he is not Mighty – Mighty is dead. This is something that everyone must come to terms with. When Shirobon realizes this, he is able to finally accept and bring closure to his brother’s death.
