Woo!

Alright then.  Since I don’t feel like studying, because studying is for wimps, I’m writing this post instead.

Don’t bother pointing out the fact that I said I studied earlier; I was lying.

So over the weekend I managed to finish two shows; Kemonozume and Spice & Wolf 2.

I guess I’ll start off by talking about Kemonozume.  Kemonozume is listed under several different genres, but at its heart it is a romance.  The short version of the story goes something like this: there are flesh eating monsters called Shokujinki and a group of humans called the Kifuuken who exist solely to hunt and kill Shokujinki.  The son of the leader of the Kifuuken falls (madly would be an understatement?) in love with a Shokujinki (though he doesn’t know that she is one).  I’m sure you can imagine what happens later on when she’s found out to be a Shokujinki.  For the not so imaginative or, in my case, the lazy; they run away together.

The first six episodes or so were quite well done; the pacing was good and the story and romance, though a bit cliche (think Romeo and Juliet), was interesting, intense, and more mature than you usually find in most romances.  It was overall quite serious, though there were intermittent occasions where they insert a bit of humor (in the form of the most bad ass monkey ever).

The latter half of Kemonozume was a bit disappointing in that the pacing slows down significantly, and how they resorted to using Shokujinki claws for powering up and whatnot.  I guess that it was for the best, but I can’t help but feel that it detracted from the rest of the show.  The art is… stylistic is a nice way to put it.  I’m not sure whether to think it’s style or just horrible animation.  Sound; jazzy pieces everywhere!

Rating: 7/10

Now then, onto Spice and Wolf 2.  Loved it, end of story.  Though it was a bit more melancholy and focused a lot more on the relationship between Horo and Lawrence than the first season.  I’m quite glad that I decided to wait till it finished airing to watch it; I’m not sure if I could have taken waiting a week for some of these episodes.  <3  Horo.  I’m too tired to write more.  Auto 9/10ed because I’m an asshole and I get to fanboy over a select few shows without justification.

Something to look forward to next post: trashing the horribly shitty anime adaptation of Valkyria Chronicles.
